CDS Storm Shelters
Our tornado safe rooms were tested and certified by Certified Testing Labratory of Orlando, Florida. Our units also conform to Florida and International building codes, Metropolitan Dade County Florida and FEMA codes. The units are certified to withstand wind loads of 450 miles per hour maximum pressure per square foot. The 100 mph FEMA 361 test involved a 12 foot long 15 lb. 2"x4" moving at 147 feet per second on impact.Our shelters are manufactured in various sizes. The size of the unit shown is 59" high x 90" long x 29" wide and will accommodate two adults and three children. Other sizes are available to suit your needs.
Specifications
The shelter base is anchored in place by 20 concrete power bolts with a total of 74 tons of hold down tension and 96 tons of shear strength. The door is anchored by three 4 1/2" hinges and three CDS door latches. All panels are held in place with 1/2" x 1/4" galvanized bolts and nuts.The emergency exit is secured by eight 1/2" T-botls. The frame is made with 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 1/4" structural steel angle full penetration welds at all points. The wall panels are fabricated from 3/16" steel plate. The roof panels are fabricated from 1/4" structural steel plate.
